My Genealogy
In 2012 while visiting my good friend, Ann, her husband sparked the “genealogy bug” in me by quickly finding information about my grandfather whom I had never known. Once home I began doing some research on my own and got totally “hooked”. My family tree kept expanding exponentially and I began feeling a strong connection to my ancestors. I’ve always enjoyed reading history books, but now they have come to life in a whole new way. I discovered I had many ancestors who were original settlers in America and fought with General Washington in the Revolutionary War. I was able to trace my roots back to England and connect to my “cousin”, Sir William Shakespeare. It’s been an amazing journey which continues to intrigue and fascinate me. There is no end in sight, but I must confine this “hobby” to the winter months.
Recently I visited Connecticut and New Jersey where my family originally settled in the 1600’s. I visited a number of museums, libraries, and cemeteries, where I was able to track my ancestor’s lives. Since coming home I have traced my mother’s family lineage back to John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley, and John Howland, Sr. and Joan Hurst, all pilgrims who arrived on the Mayflower ship in 1620. I also found a number of past Presidents among my ancestors, including John Adams, Martin Van Buren, Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt. I also have connections to Thomas Edison, Cornelius Vanderbilt, William Shakespeare and many other notable kin. You can check out some of my famous family ties below.
